WHAT GREG MECKLEM CAN DO AS WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONER

  • Oppose UGB expansions while there’s available urban land
  • Work to prioritize planning that directs new industry toward High-Capacity Transit Corridors near higher-density development
  • Emphasize infill development instead of sprawl, with urban villages along transit corridors
  • Push for a county resolution to FERC against LNG lines through Washington County resource lands
  • Promote renewable energy in new buildings, particularly when tax incentives are involved
  • Help leverage Federal funds for Pre-Natal and Baby Care by low-income health care providers
  • Improve the County’s relationships with small agribusiness and agriculture, and encourage rural-urban collaboration by convening leaders from business, government, non-profits and other community groups to think creatively about shared challenges
  • Strengthen support of the arts from elementary schools to promotion of a state-of-the-art performing arts center
  • Push for planning to protect Mature Forest Watershed lands within the 50,000 acres of State Forest in Washington County
  • Work with the State of Oregon on a "rails to trails" plan through the Coast Range.
  • Work with Senators Merkley and Wyden and our Congressional delegation to secure federal funding to meet future water supply needs
